JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under the general supervision of a Police Supervisor, the Police Crime Analyst performs a variety of strategic, tactical, and administrative duties relating to the systematic process of collecting, categorizing, analyzing, and disseminating timely, accurate, and useful information that describes crime patterns, crime trends, and potential suspects. Work requires performance of research which may include statistical, information and data processing/analysis. The Police Crime Analyst may work with officers, managers, and police administrators in gathering information and providing analyses, reports, evaluations, and recommendations. Work is reviewed for effectiveness via review of projects, reports, analysis of results.

Job Responsibilities:
Research, analyze, evaluate and correlate criminal intelligence information to identify evolving or existent crime patterns by geographical area and by time to ascertain statistical probabilities.
Review and analyze information of a sensitive and confidential nature.
Assess and/or determine intelligence information requirements in order to recommend, plan, prioritize and implement collection plans, targets and strategies.
Coordinate crime information gathering and analysis with other law enforcement agencies in the region.
Work closely with both the patrol and investigation divisions to provide timely crime analysis information.
Work closely with crime prevention officer to provide current crime information to better inform the community on crime prevention techniques.
Provide research and analysis to department personnel in preparation for meetings and policy development.
Prepare and publish crime analysis bulletins, reports and recommendations.
Develop, manage, operate and/or program computerized systems, to include crime mapping/GIS.
Prepare maps, charts, and graphs indicating criminal trends.
Provide training and orientation to police personnel and other staff on unit work and projects.
Establish and maintain an orderly system of identifying, preparing, storing and tracking a variety of reports, records and investigation/case files.
Perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
A combination of education and related experience may substitute for education requirements.
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Public Administration, Behavioral Science, Community Planning, Mathematics, Systems Analysis or a related field.
Work in a police-elated field is desirable.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
A combination of education and related experience may substitute for education requirements.
Successful completion of a polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, fingerprints, and extensive background investigation.
Obtain FBI security clearance.
